"See all this effort. Look at this instance of ethnic cleansing," a combatant exclaims.

The fighter smiles as he turns the camera on his own face and his associate militiamen, their Rapid Support Forces insignia on display: "The victims will all die like this."

These individuals are exulting in a atrocity that relief organizations fear killed more than 2,000 individuals in the Sudanese metropolis of the Darfur city in recent weeks.

A Community Severed from the World

Following their control of the city under siege for nearly 24 months, from late summer the RSF proceeded to strengthen its control and restrict the leftover residents.

Satellite images demonstrate that troops started to build a massive berm - a built-up sand barrier - encircling the edges of al-Fashir, sealing off access routes and preventing aid.
