Paris Saint-Germain Overcomes Marseille in a Shootout to Lift French Super Cup in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

The Parisian club has now secured the season-opening cup on fourteen different occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain required a dramatic equaliser followed by a perfect penalty shootout to overcome their arch-rivals in Kuwait and secure a fourth straight French Super Cup victory.

The Champions League holders appeared to be coasting towards a comfortable triumph in the showdown between the Ligue 1 champions and the Coupe de France winners after the French winger found the net early on.

Yet, the southern French side fired two times in the closing moments to seize a shock advantage. Initially, Mason Greenwood converted from the penalty spot, before the defender unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking turn of events, Goncalo Ramos snatched a vital leveler in the final moments to send the match into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the hero, saving crucial kicks from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all converted with composure for PSG to complete a 4-1 shootout victory.

Now 14-time winners PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now lifted this competition for the 12th time in the last thirteen years.
