Raducanu reached the third round in three out of four Grand Slams in the current campaign. Britain's Emma Raducanu will not compete in her remaining competitions of the year due to the illness that has affected her for the last week and a half. Raducanu, aged 22 was due to play in Tokyo and Hong Kong but chose to travel back to recover before starting next year's training. These plans are set to feature coach Francisco Roig, as the pair will keep partnering for the upcoming season. She had her blood pressure taken while playing the initial match versus Ann Li in Wuhan last week and stopped playing when behind 6-1 4-1 on a day with extreme humidity. She again required medical attention at the recent Ningbo Open, where she was defeated in three sets to local wildcard Zhu Lin in round one. Raducanu was also moving with clear difficulty in the third set against Zhu owing to a lower back issue that has been a concern during parts of the season. Those results meant an encouraging season, in which she climbed into the international top 30 for the first time since her previous ranking, finished with a trio of defeats. Raducanu had three match points before losing to Jessica Pegula in the third stage in the Beijing tournament last month. The player achieved twenty-eight matches in the current season and advanced to the semis in Washington, but her most impressive week was at the Miami event in March. As Britain's top player made the last eight of this WTA 1000 tournament, beating eighth seed Emma Navarro en route prior to a loss in three sets to Pegula, ranked fourth. Her coach was Mark Petchey as coach from the Miami event through Wimbledon, with Roig assuming the role in time for the US Open. The original arrangement with the ex-coach of Rafael Nadal was through the season's conclusion but they will keep working together, with a training block pencilled in for the end of the year. The athlete revealed that her three-day trial with Roig post-Wimbledon was like a "black ops mission" as they tried to keep the meeting secret. The player was close to defeating top-ranked Aryna Sabalenka at their initial event as a team in Cincinnati in August. Roig joined her in the New York tournament, where she advanced to round three before being beaten by 2022 Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina.
