The Game UN:Me: A Cerebral Horror That Blends Survival Horror and Among Us Mechanics

The latest Day of the Devs online presentation unveiled several fascinating future games, but one in particular has seized attention: UN:Me. Created by Historia and Shueisha Games, this solo adventure seems to fuse together the oppressive atmosphere of a Silent Hill game with the paranoid deduction core of Among Us.

"This is a distinctive game where a girl containing several personalities inside her needs to flee from a maze of the mind," states developer Yasukazu Kawai.

Entering a Shattered Mind

In UN:Me, players take control of an unnamed female protagonist who appears to be of teenage years. Inside her exist four distinct personas, all possessing their own fears and drives. These souls can seize control at will, releasing their innermost terrors upon her without warning.

Based on revealed gameplay, much of the narrative takes place within a eerie hospital, while other scenes depict the main character navigating a desolate chapel.

A World of Individual Dread

"What are you afraid of? What causes you uncomfortable?" poses game director Shun Sasaki. "High places. Small rooms. People in power. Things that seem trivial to others can activate a deep instinct within us. This game delves into that idea — fears that are unique to every individual."

The core gameplay loop revolves around controlling whichever soul surfaces at any given moment. However, these identities will switch against your will during gameplay. While exploring, every persona's anxieties become amplified and attack the protagonist one after another. As the persona shifts, so does the particular terror the player experiences.

Unsettling Visuals and a Deadly Choice

At first glance, UN:Me shares noticeable aesthetic parallels with the Silent Hill franchise. The setting is filled with nurses who all share the same face, with disturbingly broad smiles. Patients in the waiting room have large flowers where their heads are. Flowers are an ever-present theme, contrasting natural beauty with supernatural dread.

Yet, UN:Me introduces a singular mechanic. Players are tasked with deducing which of the four entities haunting the protagonist is the "real" one. "Each of the personas claims that the physical form belongs to them," explains a developer. "During the game, you must determine who is authentic."

After a player have deduced a soul is an impostor, they are forced to destroy it. But, since each soul can lie or hide the truth, it is very easy to choose incorrectly.

"Perhaps you've already eliminated the true [soul] with your own hands," a voice suggests. "The last one standing could be a fake. Either way, your choices are irreversible."

UN:Me does not yet have a confirmed launch window, but it is available to follow on platforms.
