While perhaps not at the equivalent scale as pardoning holiday birds, but the Miami-Dade County mayor had her own ceremonial pardon event this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven. Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood. “The swine has done no wrong. Clemency is justified for her. No offenses are on her docket,” Levine Cava said in a speech with clear references to the extraordinary and sizable number of executive clemencies issued from the start of the commencement of a new presidential term. “Except perhaps for eating half a dozen apples per day,” the mayor added. “Let this swine have a prosperous future without fear.” The event, which both honors and questions the area's customary feast of consuming swine during the holidays, was established to replicate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House. The swine, provided by a first responder, was given its name from the modern linguistic fad of young people exclaiming “6-7” – originating from a rap song lyric – often seemingly at random. The phrase became so widespread that a prominent word reference recently named “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year. A Future Secured The pardoned swine is now destined to live out its days at a countryside refuge “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the ceremony's official statement. “This swine clemency has become one of our favorite ways to open the festive period,” said Eric Castellanos, in a particularly upbeat message. “It captures the essence of Miami: happy, multicultural, and based in heritage that unite the community. Annually, we are honored to observe culture and compassion in a way distinctively Miamian.” Attendees enjoyed a vegetarian menu of croquettes and Cuban coffee as they toasted the swine's new lease on life.
